The U.S. Grains Council worked jointly with the American Soybean Association (ASA) last week to host the 16th Annual ASA Feed Technology and Nutrition Workshop in Singapore.
Since 2003, the Council has collaborated with the American Soybean Association in organizing this event in the Southeast Asia region.
The theme of this year’s workshop was Recent Advances in Feed Processing and Quality Control.
Together the organizations sought to educate feed producers and livestock nutritionists on intrinsic characteristics, quality advantages and utilization of U.S. feed grains and co-products in feed production.
“This workshop is a good example of the cooperation between ASA and USGC for the benefit of U.S. grain producers,” said Adel Yusupov, USGC director in Southeast Asia.
“The agenda was designed to address key issues that Southeast Asian feed grain users face in today’s volatile grain market conditions.”
The workshop focused primarily on corn, distiller’s dried grains with solubles (DDGS), soybeans and soybean meal.
It was attended by more than 60 feed technicians, nutritionists and purchasing managers from feed and livestock companies across the region.
Dr. Budi Tangendjaja, USGC technical program manager in Southeast Asia, demonstrated the quality of U.S. DDGS and addressed concerns among nutritionists about mycotoxin contamination in containerized shipments of DDGS.
Yusupov said participants walked away with science-based information to apply to their decision making process, reinforcing the need for continuing the collaboration between ASA and the Council.
“There are plans to continue such events in the future as they serve as an ideal venue to promote a greater use of U.S. feed grains and co-products in Southeast Asian feed and livestock sectors,” he said.
